Double Letters and Double Digits

| May 1, 2015 | 0 Comments

fansSSSSSHHHHHH, we said all week.  And also CH and TH as we practiced double letter sounds.  We also read Jane Yolen’s How Do Dinosaurs Get Well and tried to  pronounce all the dinosaur names with varying success.

We worked with several Montessori math works this week and added them to our shelves. We are conceptualizing sets of ten. We also revisited the idea of greater than and lesser than and applied it to double digit numbers.  Our local public schools have also transitioned to tens-based math in elementary schools, so the Montessori practices are a wonderful foundation and head start for our students.

Geography was the science of this week and next week as we work our way through our introductory books on continents. We covered North America and Africa.  The children were excited we used our large Montessori map puzzles.

Thanks to Spring, we’re spending plenty of time outside, but Fun Friday was rainy so our weekly craft was umbrellas.
