The Importance of Music in Montessori
There is a current emphasis on math, science and language test scores in more traditional education. Unfortunately this causes music and the arts to be pushed to the peripherals and sometime completely excluded from the classroom. This is truly unfortunate, as it has been shown that exposure to music and a musical education, especially at an early age, helps children in their ability to concentrate and listen, not to mention improved language usage, memory and recall skills, creative reasoning and cooperation. Watching the children in our classrooms participate in their music lessons is phenomenal. The degree in engagement, excitement and joy is off of the charts! We are very fortunate to have a wonderful music instructor in Miss Sharon, who brings unparalleled enthusiasm and experience to each classroom that she teaches.
